About Me
Hello, I’m Sue, a psychotherapeutic counsellor living and working in Cottingham, East Yorkshire and I’m looking forward to meeting you. If you are local enough to travel to Cottingham, we can meet in person; otherwise, I can see you using Zoom.
I have spent my adult life caring for others; as a foster carer looking after babies, toddlers and their birth parents, as a nurse and whilst working in education.
I now help people deal with various mental health issues often related to childhood trauma
It is not just my business; It’s personal
It was my own experience of having therapy that led me to pursue my current career. After a difficult work-related trauma, I was encouraged to access psychotherapy myself. Initially I was a bit of a sceptic; “Quackery”, was the word on my lips at the time! However, I experienced a profound change in how I felt and knew then that I wanted to help others feel the benefits that psychotherapy can bring.
I am a member of two professional bodies, the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and the UK Association for Transactional Analysis. Transactional Analysis, usually shortened to TA, is a method of therapy that looks at the nature of our interactions with people.
TA has three underpinning principles that inform much of my work:
- That people are OK
- People can think
- People can change
I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, holding two counselling diplomas:
Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
UKATA Diploma in Transactional Analysis Practice
I am also working towards registration as a Clinical Psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy undergoing regular supervision and other professional development to improve and expand my practice.
I hold a current DBS certificate, have undergone Safeguarding Children and Adults training (Level 1), and carry professional indemnity/liability insurance.
All this means I am well-qualified to help you on your journey. I can empathise with how you are feeling now, and I am confident that together, we will find creative ways to help you explore what you are going through and get you to a point where you can see a brighter future.
You can feel better. I have experienced it, I don’t just talk about it!
To book a free 20 minute, no obligation, discussion about your therapy needs or to book an appointment, please contact me via the contact form, or by leaving a message on my phone: 07598 237236. I aim to respond to messages within 24 hours when practical to do so.
